Saxapahaw Summer Music Series
Saxapahaw is that cute little down right down the street that everyone forgets about. But during the summers, make sure to put their Saturday evening series on your to-do list. This was the first outing my husband and I ever did with C. He was way too young to do anything but sleep through it under his mosquito netting, but I can't wait to take him there when he gets older.
Every Saturday during the summers (starting in May), Saxapahaw has an outdoor music series. The bands are small, mostly local, and vary each week. This means that sometimes you can really bomb on the music portion of the evening, but also that sometimes you find a diamond in the rough.
This event is free to go to, but, in true music festival style, they pass around a basket soliciting donations for the band. Which I certainly don't mind dumping a few bucks in for the pleasure of such a great Saturday night event.
Even better? They specifically cater to children here. I have seen arts and crafts of all kinds and for all ages going on. There has even been a slip-n-slide on the grounds in the past (which apparently I am too big to go on).
Since this is a well-kept secret, it is rarely crowded in the event. Parking can be a nightmare, but finding a spot for your blanket is easy.
You can bring your own picnic and drinks, or you can take advantage of the General Store up the hill from the location. That can get a little busy, though, so we always pack our own.
I will plan to see you there Summer '10.
