Mother's Day ideas: It's not too late!

It's not too late! You have resources right here in town to help you make mom feel special. Here are some of my personal favorites:

1. Spa/Pampering
A gift certificate for a day of pampering works. Even better, plan a full day for her. You can go as crazy or as simple as you want with this gift.

-The cream of the crop: Pinehurst Spa. Give mom a whole day off, and book her one of the most elite spa appointments she'll ever have.
-Still really nice, and closer to home: The Umstead Spa. Beautiful spa facilities, but it will still cost a pretty penny.
-Nice, feels like a spoil, won't ruin your bank account: Skin Sense Day Spa. With multiple locations in the Triangle they do a good job of feeling like a resort spa and creating an experience.

Of course, you can also book a massage, manicure, and/or pedicure at any of your local places. Mina's in Chapel Hill, Day Spa 255, Massage Envy, and Healing Waters are all options here in town.

2. Jewelry
What mom doesn't love a little bling every now and then?

I love to shop for gifts at the NC Crafts Gallery in Carrboro. They have unique jewelry created by local artisans at all levels of prices.

Carr Mill Mall has Head Over Heels Jewelry and Jewelworks if you want to go fancy.

3. Flowers
Think beyond or (which have a 50% success rate of getting the order right and delivering on time, I have found). University Florist and Chapel Hill Florist are right here in town. You can actually go into these places and talk to someone! Refreshing change.

4. Brunch
Taking mom out to brunch an idea that tickles your fancy?

For nice brunches (up to you as to whether you feel comfortable bringing the kids), think Weathervane or Acme. The Umstead is actually hosting a Mother's Day brunch at their elite restaurant, Heron's.

If more casual is your style, McDonald's is offering free breakfast to all moms on Mother's Day. Or, alternatively, Xios in Apex is hosting a Celebrating Mother's Day event. All mothers will get free chocolate cobbler.

5. Events
I don't know of too many mom-specific events this particular Mother's Day.

I read that the music Group "Mommie" plays a family-friendly show at The Pour House in Raleigh at 3:30 in the afternoon. Click here for details. It sounds fun!

The NC Botanical Gardens is hosting a Mother's Day Mason Farm walk.

Lake Crabtree County Park is also hosting a walk, this one focused on wildflowers.

If you want to head further afield the NC Zoo is offering a discount for moms.

6. Handmade
Think of making something for mom for Mother's Day.

Want to make mom jewelry? Get help at The Bead Store in Carr Mill Mall. Call 933-4349 before heading over since their hours can be different.

Create a card, draw a picture, and get creative!

Happy Mother's Day to all the great moms out there. Have a great weekend, you work hard!
