Carrboro Elementary School Playground
Good things about summer in this area: students are gone so parking is easier and the Carrboro Elementary School Park is totally empty.
This playground is huge! Which makes sense since it needs to keep a whole school of kids entertained. There are some fabulous areas here. One of the parks is for bigger kids, with a lot of things to climb, a play house, a classic wooden play gym, swings, tires to run through, and more. I couldn't even get pictures of all it.
There is also an area that is great for toddlers, and we personally appreciated this. There are three different playgyms that are toddler appropriate, it is fenced in (hooray!), and is in the shade. There are also a few rideable items and an old kitchen to play with. It was clean, in good shape, and C loved it. The ground cover is a combination of grass and mulch.
It feels difficult to do a truly comprehensive blogpost about this since the whole park is so big. It seemed to keep going, and we didn't get an opportunity to play on it all.
There is also a ballpark here and a short dirt track to walk. There are picnic tables.
Because this is a school park, it is closed during school hours. There seems to be some conflicting information out there about the hours, but on the park there are signs that clearly state it is closed to the public Monday- Friday 7 am to 6 pm (pretty much all day) during the school year. The Parks & Rec website says it is open 3 pm to dark. So you can either go at 3 or at 6 during the weekday school year, depending on who you believe. Either way, during the summer, no problems at all.
