National Night Out 2010

Tonight marks the 27th Annual National Night Out. Per the official website, the goal is to...
  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
In the past, my own neighborhood has participated with a gathering at our community pool and visits from the local police and fire departments. Nothing excites the kids more than seeing the vehicles approach with their lights on and a chance to check them out up close. If your neighborhood doesn't have any plans, consider joining in the fun at one of the larger community sponsored events:
